86 EIGHTY-SIX Season 2: Episode 3
So this was an eventful episode, and what really felt like the first real start of the show. And I’m glad the whole school thing got completely skipped over, I was worried we would get stuck watching them sit in class learning random military facts for 3 episodes. We are finally back to the combat and the fighting, that for me is pretty much the only high point of the show.
Part of me keeps watching this show hoping to see if the Federacy’s military is better prepared than the Republic’s was. And in some ways I feel it really isn’t. While the Republic was incompetently sitting behind walls and just throwing a diminishing population at a problem, and not using their artillery to combat the enemy forces. The Federacy is trying a bit harder, upgrading their hardware and training the soldiers better to fight and survive. I just wonder what their goal is in the short to medium term. Sure the long-term goal is to completely defeat the Empire’s robots. But eventually they really should stop and form a good solid line of defense, get some walls and artillery and endless minefields. And let those defenses take the brunt of the damage for a decade to allow the next generation to grow up to actually fight in the next part of the war. Just pushing endlessly will just deplete their resources and put them in a bad spot in the future.
Of course I kinda doubt we will ever get any answers and deeper tactics to any of this. After all it is based on a Light Novel.
