86 EIGHTY-SIX : Episode 9

You know, something must have been cut in this episode and I don’t know what or why. But nothing in this episode really felt right at all. First off you have that battle. That was, rushed would probably be the way I put it. And honestly a bit anti-climatic. You set up this massive army to fight against, and this brother battle that has been built up. And the entire thing is wrapped up in 15 minutes, with very little actual fighting or seemingly danger. We have gone from characters dying in every single battle showing how dangerous things are, to the final battle with people barely getting injured. Sure the mortar fire was interesting and unexpected, but also way too overpowered. If the mortars are able to wipe out the entire army in a couple volleys why do they even have soldiers out in the field fighting, just have scouts and do targeted mortar strikes to deal with the enemy when they approach. It just all came together in a way that didn’t feel good at all, it isn’t what I wanted.

Than the swap over to Major and the events inside the city. She has decided to throw everything away to save this group essentially now. Something I’ll come back to later. Along with blackmailing her friend into activating the mortar system to assist her and the group. But as we saw, the mortar system is completely automated I guess. I figured it was manned and that is the reason it wasn’t used, but no, nobody needs to man it at all. Just provide targeting information. In which case, why is it not being used? Whatever now, back to the Major throwing everything out. Something feels wrong here, like actually wrong. She is going to end up blind due to using the vision sharing thing to fire the mortar, and most likely dealing with court martial after hacking the mortar system and allowing her group to just leave. Given what we have seen might even end up being evicted from the city with how screwed up the government of the Republic is. And for all this all the group gives her is barely a single thank you before just leaving. I mean it makes sense they leave, why wouldn’t they. But once again it just isn’t satisfying.

I will have to see where this goes from here. We have two more episodes to see where they wrap up the season at. But for me, despite being the major wrapping up point of the main conflict with Shin, this was the low point for the show. My least enjoyable episode by far. I would have liked it a bit more to see it split evenly into two episodes. One fully dealing with the battle outside, make it a true 25 min slog like I was expecting. And the second dealing with the events inside and giving Major and the group a proper separation.
