Devil Survivor 2: The Animation : Episode 1

A couple minutes into the episode I had to go look up if this was based on a game, and it was. Straight from the beginning it was pretty obvious this was based on some video game, and apparently a DS game in the Shin Megami Tensei universe of games. Looks like a FF Tactics style DS game, which means this show actually has very little work to off to make the characters and fights work, and thus far I don’t think they really are.

Much like the previous Persona adaptions I’ve watched, the anime gets rid of what I assume is the majority of the content in the game that is the combat. And instead just has moments that the characters summon some creature, and than stand around while it fights and eventually something happens. And than things progress to the next scene. It is a method that just doesn’t work very well at all I don’t think.

I get the feeling that within an episode or two if the story interests me I will be better off just dropping the show and going to play the original game instead. Because the story and characters would be better developed in that original source.
