Robotics;Notes : Episode 20

Man I really didn’t like this episode at all. It just has a ton of issues for me with the general story I can’t get over. And questions I just have that make no sense.

Like why did they build the GunBuild-2? It literally didn’t do anything, and never added anything to the show at all or the story or the characters at all. It was completely pointless. They built this fancy new robot because it was obviously better, spent many episodes doing it, and now just replacing it with GunBuild-1 but upgraded. Added onto that, what is with these pile drivers and mono-pol motors, I thought these would have been specialized parts. Like the motors rely on magic space rocks that were randomly falling on the island, how many of these damn things do they have. If they have enough to just make dozens of spare motors, they could have just sold them to the government or some private company and funded the entire robot build themselves. Honestly the whole robot part of the story has been such an unbelievable mess I really want to know where it went wrong compared to the VN I need to read.

Than we have Kimijima and Misaki. I don’t really understand how Kimijima got converted into data and stored on the internet, I must be missing something. He was going to run an experiment, and than Misaki kills him with a blow to the head. And then he died. So how did he go from dying from a head blow to becoming data, was it the experiment he was running just happened to convert his data? Did he previously store himself at data and wasn’t activated till he died in a dead-mans switch way? Than of course the question is, how exactly is Kimijima controlling Misaki, or how was he controlling Airi? Isn’t he a collection of data on the internet. So how is a collection of data controlling people directly? This isn’t Ghost in the Shell where people are implanting cyber brains that get taken over. I feel like once again, I’m missing something important, that ether was never explained or I’ve just completely missed.

In the end of the episode, we have basically a whole bunch of people on the island showing up to help them build the GunBuild-1 Upgrades. But why? Like seriously, why? How did everyone learn that not only the robotics club needed help upgrading the GunBuild-1, but that it was crucial to stopping some vague threat to a black hole bomb. I just don’t really understand how they are all there, or why anybody would think the solution to their problem is this crappy old robot that couldn’t walk.

Final issue, I still don’t really understand Kimijima’s plan. Nor do I understand why he is doing it. He has some vague weapon called a black-hole bomb he plans to use to disrupt the magnetic field of the planet. Not sure why or what his motivations are. Is he just a bad guy who wants to do something evil? Does this somehow lead to him ruling over the ruined husk of the planet afterwards? I just don’t get it at all. With Steins Gate the larger story made some sense, this was a competition between corporations and governments for control. But here, I just don’t get it. I’m assuming it is an anime issue and improved in the VN.
