Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury : Episode 12
Current Episode Score: 9
Well, that was certainly an episode that was worth the seasons final episode spot. Pretty much just one massive battle with multiple massive character developments during the fighting. What an insane episode all together, nothing but crazy.
Starting off, I’m kinda disappointed that Delling doesn’t have any other secret guards and support that are unseen. It seems he just kept a very small security force, and relied on his direct allies to never betray him. Just feels kinda odd for somebody as powerful as Delling to not have more of a secret force behind him.
And than we have Guel fighting against his father, and eventually killing him. That was just brutal and incredibly sad. For so long he just wanted to impress his father and make him recognize him. And when he finally wins a true fight he would earn serious recognition for, it ends up being against his own father. That is honestly just super depressing.
The various Earthian Gundams that are fighting in this battle are interesting. Honestly this private military group essentially is really flexing their muscles this episode, with just how overpowering a group with excellent planning and execution can be. With them essentially wiping out all the normal security forces and decimating this base with little looses or trouble at all. And only needing to retreat when the main security force starts to show up. I do wonder about Sophie and Norea, they keep calling Suletta their sister. And I wonder if that actually means anything, or just in general because she pilots a Gundam as well. It is interesting that they don’t seem to have any special adaptions or anything for piloting the Gundams, they are just dealing with the repercussions because it lets them fight much stronger enemies.
Moving over to Miorine and her father. Didn’t get a ton of screen time together, but Miorine does help her father after he protects her from the attacks. And we get to learn more about their relationship, and some final backstory for their relationship. It is a super practical way of surviving and keeping the family alive, choosing multiple options even if it means one dying, to make sure somebody survives in the end. Though it is fairly sad.
Finally we have Suletta and Aerial. And damn, they didn’t get all that much to do this episode to be honest. And I wish we had an extra episode of more fighting and to see Suletta actually get pushed a bit more, she kinda dominates a quick fight with Sophie and than they end up leaving. But the actual heavy point of the episode is showing how screwed up Suletta is mentally, like really screwed up. The family motto that is basically as long as you gain, all is good, is incredibly dark and dangerous. And has so many questions for other things Prospera has done in the past. But Suletta gets over seeing somebody die instantly, and just recognizes that they will need to die in order for her to progress and survive, and just no longer cares as long as she benefits. Leading to that very dark ending, of Suletta just murdering that random solider in front of Miorine and falling into his pool of blood. And showing no regrets or caring about his death, he was just a necessary sacrifice who would stood in the way of Suletta getting to her goal. This is probably going to be the biggest development of the season for sure, and lead to the most issues in the next season. Will Miorine still wish to work with Suletta after seeing that, how will Miorine’s mental state be affected knowing her groom and best friend is totally a psychopath.
Bringing things back around to Prospera and Suletta and Aerial. For awhile their has been this theory that Aerial is really Eri, that have been merged in some experiment to perfect Gundams. And that Suletta is some artificial human created to interface with Aerial/Eri and work perfectly together. And I’ve always had some issues with the theory, I don’t think the times work perfectly. But also I didn’t know if Prospera was that type of person, she seemed caring enough for Suletta, though in a kinda detached way. Kinda like she was just a very motivated genius that had just has a very odd way of expressing her love for Suletta after her husband died. But after this episode, that chances of that theory being true goes way up. Their whole family motto and how quick Suletta is to take up murder with no regrets or emotions, makes the whole thing more likely to me. The idea that Prospera who taught Suletta to be this way, also is fully willing to do anything to gain and move towards her goals. Even if it meant trapping Eri in a Gundam, and creating a hybrid human. If it would further her goal, I could now see her totally doing that. I am going to assume we will get an actual answer to that next season.
