Summer Time Rendering: Episode 21

Been a bit of a wait since I’m relying on fan-subs for the show. But finally I can watch episode 21. And man it was worth the wait. So good to see Ushio back. And it largely went the way I figured it would. No way would they actually kill off Ushio for good, she is far too important a character to the show to just get rid of. And they left us with far too many hints to make us think she was really gone. The main question is, how does this all end between Ushio and Haine. We know Ushio is very similar to Haine, so what happens when they defeat Haine? Does Ushio stick around and inherit Haine’s powers and position? Or will this be a grand showdown when nobody wins, will everybody end up loosing in the end.

Speaking of loosing, Mio finally truly lost the fight for Shinpei’s love. A fight that she honestly lost before she even started to fight. There was pretty much no way it would have ended any other way, I just don’t see how it could happen. I am incredibly worried about Mio now though. She threw up a massive death flag this episode, and I’m worried it will get followed through with. I do wonder if we will get a fake out, we had Mio try and fake being Shadow Mio this episode. So I’m considering we will get a call-back to that scene in the final episode or fight, with Haine/Shide killing Mio for us to get the reveal that it was just Shadow Mio instead.

Now something I do wonder about involves Shinpei’s ability to travel between parallel worlds. They confirmed, or at least highly suspect, that is how his ability works. And that is what I figured was happening the whole time. It does raise the question though, will they go all the way with that ability in the final episode. Once you have the ability to travel between parallel worlds, you could easily search out the exact world that you wish to have that has the outcomes you want. Once you win the fight and beat Haine. You could seek out a world in which Hizuru survives the conflict, or Ushio never dies to start with. I wonder if they will go that far with it, or leave it with his ability disappearing when Haine dies.
