86 EIGHTY-SIX : Episode 11
And with this the first season of the show is over. And I’ll be honest, I don’t know if I really loved it or not. I liked parts of it sure, but it feels too unrealistic and stupid almost to really love it. And yes, it is a fictional anime, it doesn’t need to be realistic. But at some point no matter the show or game or movie, I can’t just sit here and not take notice of various things.
The military is completely incompetent, and has been for years, but somehow they still haven’t completely lost the war. The various soldiers still fight, for whatever reason I cannot understand, why do you go out and fight every day when you know you will die and that is the only outcome, instead of trying to escape. How do they still have viable mechs to use in the fighting, we didn’t see any massive manufacturing capability to produce thousands of mechs and replacement parts necessary. Heck were are the farms placed in order to make the food the military eats, your telling me an incompetent military that just kills everyone without protecting their troops actually allows people to just casually mass farm hundreds of acres of land? Or the power plants the oil refineries, I can’t believe that a military and government so incompetent would suddenly be smart enough to dedicate manpower to working these industries. Honestly, the only reason I have questions and want answers is because the show does interest me. I want to get immersed in this world and these characters, but the more immersed I get the more I question things they don’t answer and will never answer.
Now, having various questions does make me want to come back and watch Season 2. So I most definitely will. I want to see if they answer some questions for me, help fill out the world more. I doubt it, but it is an option.
As for the actual episode, was a pretty classic cliffhanger ending to convince people to come back. Leave the fate of the characters unknown, but strongly hinted things don’t end well. That was a really poor situation for the whole group, and I don’t see how it ends well. But at the same time, I can’t help but feel like this is a fake out. I can’t name very many shows or novels and such that are willing to kill off the main character and entire main cast in the final moments of the book or show.
Meanwhile, somehow Lena didn’t get a court martial or killed or something, and only put under house arrest. That punishment seems really lax for hacking the artillery and letting her group just leave. Maybe the actual punishment will come in the next season, it is possible. We shall see.
