Gosick : Episode 19

I am really disappointed and confused in this show. Were we are now is completely different from where we started, and I had no foreshadowing that it would be ending up in this place. And I really don’t love it at all. The first half of the show was pretty good, each episode you got a fun and enjoyable mystery. Over each episode we learn more about the characters, and they grow closer. It really isn’t my favorite style of show, but it works pretty well and I didn’t have many complaints.

But now we have this stuff, and it feels like a completely different show. We no longer have the mystery of the day style stories, we instead have this overarching story. But by far the worst part is the change in representation of magic in the world. The first part magic was completely non-existent, and was something to allow Victorique to solve the mystery and show it isn’t magic, and instead just pure logic. But now they are leaning into this idea of magic heavily. And I don’t see where it is going, or how this ties in with how the show started at all.

The other part I really don’t like it how much time Victorique and Kujou are being forced apart in this part of the show. Because the only thing that makes these characters good is their interactions. Alone they just don’t do all that much for me, and are rather dull. But bouncing off each other and interacting they gain so much more character. But they are now spending so much time apart, with Kujou chasing after Victorique after she has been kidnapped once more.
