So I decided to read some of the light novel after starting the show, which only appears to be available as a fan translation. Which I will say is pretty good, and has a good amount of editors/translation notes. Sure takes me back a couple years when the fan translation scene for web novels and light novels was something I was really into, and I always enjoyed the community around them. For a time at least until everything got infested by money.

But with it I realized just how much this show is cutting and rushing through content, and I don’t really know why. I’m quickly remembering from the light novel that the best part of this series is the character interactions and growth, and not so much the combat or action parts. It is very much a story of a group of very overpowered characters going around and solving various issues. As they go on their own quest which is basically just meeting people from the past and making friends. So why rush the characters to get further in the story, I just don’t really get it.

And in general this adaption just isn’t very good at all, outside of the rushed story. Visually the show doesn’t do it any favors, with an visual style that I would best describe as cheap, nothing stands out or pops at all for the show. There just isn’t much going for this show really at all, and I honestly don’t know who the show is for.

Fans of the original light novels, who would be big enough fans to track down fan translations, would find it poor due to how much is cut. The same I think goes for the manga readers, though I haven’t reread the first volume of the manga recently, but at least that has an official release. And if you know nothing about the source material, the show just does nothing to help itself stand-out from the various much better shows of the season. With poor visuals, a story that feels vary dated by at least a decade, and no real hook to start off the show with.

It is only episode 5, and I’ll probably finish the show out just because I watch too much stuff. But honestly I can already say there is no reason for somebody to go out and watch this show.
