Robotics;Notes : Episode 16

I really don’t know what went wrong with this show at all, but it just isn’t very good at all. It has multiple conflicting main plot points to the point that none of them get expanded on at all in a satisfying way. And just randomly jumps between one plot thread to another suddenly in a way that doesn’t feel smooth.

The entire robot storyline has just been butchered, and I don’t even know what it was supposed to be originally. I figure in the VN it is expanded upon, with you assisting Aki in building it along with the rest of the team. Maybe work along storylines on actually building these motors and the robot. But in the anime, you don’t see anything. It might as well have just been magic, because you are shown no way how this thing has been built or the process behind it. Just after a dozen episodes the new robot is suddenly complete with completely revolutionary power sources and motors.

Than we have the Kaito and kimijima reports. Which if you asked me what the actual plot of the show was, it would be these stupid reports. Most of the runtime has been dedicated to walking around the island collecting these things by Kaito, and I don’t know why. They aren’t satisfying when Kaito gets them, they don’t lead to major plot developments or backstory or anything. They are just semi-random ramblings that are supposed to be important, but we don’t know why.

They supposedly relate to the end of the world and some committee of 300. And yet we are 16 episodes into the show and know nothing about any of this. And haven’t had any confrontation with anybody from the committee at all. By this point they might as well not exist, because of how little they have actually done.

Finally we just have pure character relations and interactions. Which are just severely lacking in the show beyond belief really. By this point in Steins;Gate everyone had a role and personality and you enjoyed the characters. There were relationships happening and changing, and you were constantly worried for these characters. But Robotics;Notes, none of that has happened. I don’t really care about the characters at all, and don’t feel like I’ve connected with them at all. Nor have they really grown yet at all, they are still the same characters we saw in Episode 1.

Honestly i just don’t understand this show, I feel like it had potential. And I do wonder about playing the VN, and seeing what the story was meant to be. Because I can’t help but feel like can’t be what it is, this must be some butchered version of the story and characters due to time limits.
