Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury : Episode 5
Current Episode Score: 8
These are some odd developments going on. We have another Gundam at the school, which seems odd given they should be outlawed you know. But it seems like everyone has just kinda decided they will call Gundams by a different name and nobody is really gonna care. But it seems we are getting Elan’s story now, and it seems really dark. Like he is some modified human who was designed and created with the soul purpose of controlling the type of Gundam the Peil Technologies company built. They seem to have technically achieved their goal, but I can’t help but feel like they are a worse version of what Shin Sei created and Suletta uses.
For Suletta’s Gundam you have a multi-use tool that technically anybody can bring out the potential of, if only for short periods if you aren’t compatible with it. And to me it seems like that version of control is much more fluid and accepting of the pilot and works better at being controlled. Meanwhile the Peil version is much more violent. Requiring a custom designed pilot from birth whose entire job is to pilot the Gundam. And the method of control Elan described just feels much more violent and harsh than Suletta’s.
It will be interesting to see the actual power levels between the two in the next episode, and how far each person can push their machines. I would assume the more harsh control scheme of Elan’s will take much more stamina and endurance to use in a long match. So the longer it went on, and the longer Elan had to endure the strain it might start causing issues and he might start to lose control.
Something I’m also very interested in is how powerful Aerial actually is, and how well it might have kept up with development over the years. The mechanics talk about how advanced Aerial is this episode. But is that because they just haven’t worked with many Gundams, or is Shim Sei getting funding from somebody with much deeper coffers to keep it updated and cutting edge over the years. After all we are many years past when it was initially developed, and I’m assuming Gundam development is moving quickly despite the technical ban on the technology. So did they keep pace with the rest of the industry.
Honestly the next episode will be interesting to see how it goes. I can’t see Suletta losing this fight to be honest, it just doesn’t seem like they would want to take Aerial away from her. Aerial and Suletta are pretty closely linked at this point, and I don’t feel like they would really want to invest multiple episodes or even the rest of the season dedicated to Suletta getting Aerial back. But at the same time I figure they will want this to be a very hard and difficult match between Suletta and Elan. So I’m going to wonder if it might end in a draw perhaps, with both striking an ending blow at the same moment. In due to that nobody actually wins the duel in the end. The other option I could see is something going wrong with Elan. He is pushing really hard with many duels back to back. And it is always possible whatever technique created him isn’t perfect and has flaws, and a very hard fight with another Gundam that pushes Elan to the breaking point might reveal those flaws.
