Black★Rock Shooter (TV) : Episode 1

I’ll be honest, I don’t know what to make of the Black Rock Shooter character. And the various media that has sprung up around it. I don’t understand really how this happened. As far as I can tell it all came from some illustrations, a song, and a music video. But it somehow has multiple anime and manga and a video game. Real odd.

And I did enjoy that OVA that came out previously before this show. Though I do remember feeling like it didn’t really have enough time to do anything really. Which did end up disappointing me.

So now we have the TV show. And another chance at the Black Rock Shooter character, and apparently another TV show coming out later this year. And we are off to an interesting start I guess. We have some various characters, some emotional trauma, and what seems like an arc based around friendship? Not really sure where any of this will go from this first episode at all. Kinda like I don’t really understand how the Black Rock Shooter and big monster fights fit into this as well, does that represent some inner emotions of the characters?

Speaking of the Black Rock Shooter and monster fights, we get to the CGI. Which is fine for CGI I guess, it is better than much of the CGI I see even in new shows. But it does stand out that it is obviously CGI. It has the same issue every use of CGI has that it just never meshes 100% with the rest of the animation at all, it always will stand out when that happens. But I don’t think it is bad enough to really take away from the show, unlike some other CGI I’ve seen recently.
