Penguindrum : Episode 20

Oh man, we got alot of backstory in this episode. And I’m rather satisfied that we are finally getting some solid answers to things. But the biggest question I have still looms large, is this actually happening or is it just a representation of various traumas.

But first the things we have learned. Kanba and Masako are apparently siblings it seems, unless everyone in the Kiga group treat each other as siblings. But it doesn’t seem that way given they referred to Shouma as just that boy. So I figure something deeper must be between those two, which is really unexpected. I want to learn what is happening there.

Kiga group is much different than what I expected, tbh I don’t know what I was expecting. But it seems the group is an environmental terrorist group. Doing their various deeds in order to correct the way the world is going. And save various species and people. And that they are still 100% still around confirmed this episode, they are in fact who Kanba has been working with. Really feel like they will play a key role in whatever happens next. Plus you know the fact that Shouma’s father is still alive is now confirmed as well.

And final major one I feel is Shouma essentially adopts Himari, and makes her join the family. Which is why he feels so bad about the various events that are now happening. If he didn’t intervene, and bring her along none of the events that happen to her now would be happening. I do want to know if Shouma knows about his father being alive or not, that might be rather important.

Now getting back around to my big question, how much of this is happening really? Like lets take the penguins and bunnies, they exist to our main characters but nobody else can see them and yet they interact with the world without issue. Characters get transported to other worlds and have magical things happen, but does it really? This whole child broiler thing, what are they talking about? Is this an actual thing that exists and you can jump on in if you no longer feel like living, or a representation of when a character is considering say, suicide? What about the whole fate thing and the diary? Depending on the answer to the question, do these events exist in the real world or just something meta-phsycial, so many things could and will change. Hell I still haven’t passed up the possibility this whole show is some fever dream of a dying Himari or another character.

I really just want to get some answers to this big massive question I have. I feel like if I knew the extent everything would fall into place. But as long as the possibility exists that these supernatural events could actually be happening, I can’t figure out anything at all. I do wonder when and if I will get the answers I want.
