Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina : Episode 5
Current Episode Score : 5
I honestly don’t have much to say about this episode, because I feel like not much happened. There was no conflict or character or world building at all. I guess you could say we learned that the range of strength in magic users is super massive, and that they all have different strengths and weaknesses. And some of them just have enough magic to be a street performer or making manual labor easier. But it still doesn’t build out the world in any way I want to learn about.
This was also a massive missed opportunity to show things that Elaina might not be amazing at. A good character shouldn’t be perfect with every type of magic, and have no apparent weaknesses. But we are basically told this episode that she is good at everything, which means there is zero growth that can happen with her from a skill perspective. So we are left waiting for some character growth with her emotions or how she treats others or sees the world. But thus far, I haven’t seen anything that shows any signs of that happening.
Really don’t know where this show is going to go. Or what the author thought they were doing with the character. But watching a perfect character who doesn’t grow or change just isn’t very interesting when nothing else also exists to replace that growth.
