Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina : Episode 3

Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina : Episode 3

Current Episode Score: 7

Well, that was an incredibly depressing episode. Like damn, there wasn’t a single moment in that episode that had a happy ending at all.

We start off with a city that is essentially under siege from a magic field of flowers. With it all ending with the city guard wandering off to the field to die after being affected by the magic. And what appears to be a small army of people who are hypnotized to carry more flowers to the city in an attempt to draw more people out to the field.

Than we move onto a kid and I guess novice mage who is in love with his father’s slave. But can’t actually do anything to help her position or save her from position. So instead tries to do minor things to cheer her up, even though he isn’t giving her the thing she actually would want at all.

Neither of these stories I feel will have a good ending, but it seems like Elaina doesn’t really care about the ending of it. And in an odd take for a protagonist of one of these fantasy stories, doesn’t take any steps to even assist or give any advice to the situation. It is a tad odd, and almost makes it feel like Elaina wants to merely be an observer of the world and events, not wanting to actually affect the outcome. I am now interested to see if she continues this vague idea of not attempting to help or change the outcome in the future, is there going to be some character growth related to this? I’ve noticed she has a sort of self-important viewpoint, from almost feeling she was entitled to being a witch due to how hard to trained with her encounter with Fran to her descriptions of herself and beautiful places. So will this tie into this notion in the future as well?
