I Want to End this Love Game : Episode 1
Current Episode Score: 6
First episode, and I have some disappointing thoughts. Not on the story of the characters or pacing or any of that stuff. That all is literally just the same as the manga, as most modern manga/light novel adaptions are. That is all near perfect copies of the source material and I have nothing to say or add to that discussion. The characters are fun, and the set-up is really good for telling an extended love story. That has now reached the point that they are mature enough to actually want to progress the game and move to the next stage, and not just keep casually flirting.
My issue with the show is entirely in the animation quality. The moments when the animation swaps from hand drawn to cgi is way better than it was being done a couple years ago. But it is still distracting and off. The style doesn’t match the hand drawn perfectly, so you automatically notice and find the issues with it. The movements of the characters is wrong and feels off. They do a fancy camera movement that is completely unnecessary, and is only possible in a generic inexpensive show like this when done in cgi. And it doesn’t only happen in background scenes of random background characters walking or city shots anymore, but now you have it happening in just a scene when the camera moved back from the characters. It is just so jarring and completely takes me out of it.
And I guess this is a continuation of my rant the other week about modern anime, but why does this have to happen. Do we really need like 80 some shows a season, if you can’t fully dedicate the time and budget necessary to properly hand draw the first episode of your new show. Especially when a solid 90% of them are completely forgettable and have no audience at all. IDK, less now about this show and more of general frustrations with modern anime.
