And the last arc of the season is done, along with the season. And while it is nice to get more serious content finally in the show again. That directly references the on-going cold war. But it also still has the issue of just not really progressing anything with the story at all. Which is largely the issue with the entire season. Another season goes by, and I can’t say what really has changed with the characters or the plot. It has just been frozen at the same spot it was at the start of the show in season 1.

What does the capture of Wheeler actually gain them this episode, what actual progress does it give. or the failure of state security in this case. Will there be some consequences from this spy not getting the documents to state security? What did this story arc actually provide for us? There was the great moment in which there could be progress between Yuri and Loid in somebody being discovered, but nothing happens. There could have been progress between Loid and Yor’s relationship, but that has also stayed the same regardless of how the arc started.

This is a larger complaint I have mentioned many times in the past, and by the end of season 3 I still feel the same way. Which matches my thoughts from the current chapter of the manga as well. There are no consequences or plot progression from anything that happens. None of the characters actually grow or change because of these arcs or the events that happen. At one point I question why I keep watching and reading the series, and not just drop the series until it eventually gets a rushed ending because they spent years not making any progression till everyone got bored of the series and need to end it in a single volume/season.
