Sankarea: Undying Love : Episode 11

In theory this episode works out well. You finally have a confrontation between the abusive and pedophile father and the guy who saved Rea from that situation. Along with Rea coming along to say her bit and tell him off and what she believes and thinks. Except like they have done previously, they are incapable of having a serious discussion and episode that maintains a solid tone throughout.

In the middle of a very serious situation, in which Chihiro has been kidnapped and now being forced to fight the father. And than later has literally been stabbed in what could be a life threatening wound. They intersperse in silly comedy and cosplay bits. Stuff that is supposed to get a laugh and lighten the tone, stuff that would have worked great 5 episodes ago during a slice of life episode or the shopping trip. When it doesn’t work well is during a kidnapping. It presents such a massive whiplash in tone that you don’t know if you should be taking any of this serious at all.

And than in the end, the Father just leaves. No repercussions at all happen to him. He isn’t hurt or wounded, he didn’t loose anything. He just decides to give up temporarily and walk away after stabbing a kid.
